TILE or SLATE

Slate options include: Welsh or Spanish natural slate or artifical composite slate.

Concrete composite tiles are available in flat or Roman pan tile profiles. An interlocking edge profile tile is available to give the tiles a thinner appearance when fixed to the roof to create the appearance of a slate rather than tiled roof.

It is important when swapping from slate to tile or when changing the type of tiles to consider how this may change the roof loading. For example tiles are usually heavier than slates.

When replacing an old slate or tiled roof take the opportunity to check for rotted or sagging rafters and consider adding new and thicker thermal insulation, the cost of which will soon pay for itself in lower heating bills.
